So, the other day I’m in Best Buy buying my new MacBook Pro (which is so gorgeous, I want to have babies with it). My friend Ryan works nearby, so he came to visit me on his lunch break while I was checking out the computers. I was telling him about my adventure to Europe and how a family friend is letting me stay in his villa in Monte Carlo for three months. Ryan is trying to figure out in his head where Monte Carlo is.
So I’m all, “Yeah, Monte Carlo, it’s near Monaco, you know, in France.”
Ryan, being ever-so diplomatic goes, “Uh, Jamie, Monaco isn’t in France.”
“What!?”
“Monaco is its own country!”
“MONACO IS A COUNTRY!? I THOUGHT IT WAS A CITY IN FRANCE!”
“Jamie, are you serious? It’s a country with its own royalty.”
“OH MY GOD. I didn’t even know that.”
And, then, my next thought was…
Holy shit, I am in trouble and, for the love of god, I NEED TO BUY A MAP.

hahaha! yes, those are very helpful. i bought an atlas a few years ago when i realized my geography was lacking. this sounds like a mistake i would’ve made.
you’re only dumb if you realize you don’t know something that would be helpful to know and intentionally neglect to learn it.
This is just getting more and more exciting.
Almost beats the time I’m explaining that I’m going to homeschool to a group of haters and then go on to say something like Columbus landed in America in…..ummmm….yeah, I should probably check that out for my kids’ sake
And I say this with love … “Oy.”
dont take it so hard
it happens when ur expected to know silly things
It is a mistake that lots of Europeans make! Word of warning….it is the most expensive place in Europe and there is not much to do unless you have a yacht
Another fact…it only takes 56minutes to walk the width of the country.
Yes, it’s a country, but it kind of IS in France! Like The Vatican is “in Italy” … even looking at a map you could make that mistake.
Sounds like something I would say. Completely.
Ha! I love it! You definitely need a map.
Don’t you hate when you give away the fact that you’re a bit of an idiot. I do.
Well, this could make your trip even more interesting…now you know where you WON’T be! This post is too funny! But don’t fret…when traveling in England once, I had someone ask me if Kansas was in Texas. Americans aren’t the only ones who have small holes in their geography education.
I went to Monte Carlo when I was studying abroad in Italy, and it is absolutely beautiful! And it’s pretty much in France, so don’t feel dumb. I would have thought the same thing
When are you leaving?
I’m kind of dumb too. I’ve never been to Europe and fully intend to study a map before I ever plan on going. You knew more than me!
